Clean energy for the airport operator

ACCIONA has been supplying Aena, the company that operates the main airports in Spain, with high-voltage electricity for all its airports located on the Iberian Peninsula in 2020 and 2021. In the tender, called for 2020 and extended for a further year, ACCIONA was awarded four of the seven packages put out to tender by the airport operator.

The energy awarded -an estimated annual volume of 728 GWh- represented 76% of the total energy in the tender, and includes high-voltage supplies to emblematic airports such as Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, among others.

Like all the energy marketed by ACCIONA, that supplied to Aena has 100% renewable origin certification from the Spanish Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC). The use of clean energy at the volumes indicated avoids the emission of more than 460,000 tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere per year -the main cause of climate change-from fossil-fuel power stations, according to the Spanish power generation mix.
